It's a shame. I live only a few miles from Sackett's Harbor, home to six of Cides owners. There were big screen TVs set up outside and even a Funny Cide festival last night. Not to mention "Belmont Burgers" at all of the local restaraunts. Everyone was really into this. Upstate NY never gets the proper representation.Fly Raleigh-Durham International, with direct flights on Air Canada, AirTran, American Airlines, American Eagle, America West, Continental Airlines, Continental Express, Delta Airlines, Delta Connection, jetBlue, Northwest Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United Express and US Airways to:

Sigh...Funny Cide Third
Saturday, June 07, 2003, 8:18pm
After leading for much of the race, Funny Cide finished third at the Belmont Stakes Saturday evening.
A crowd of more than 1,000 watched the race on big screen tv's in Sackets Harbor.
The crowd cheered and roared, and then got quiet as the race entered the home stretch and "Empire Maker" took the lead.
Empire Maker, the Kentucky Derby runner-up, was the spoiler.
Empire Maker, who skipped the Preakness, ruined Funny Cide's bid to become the first horse in 25 years to win the Triple Crown.
Though Funny Cide took the early lead and set the pace, Empire Maker moved ahead just before the last turn and held off a charging "Ten Most Wanted" to win the Belmont Stakes.
Funny Cide finished third.

Earlier...
Funny Cide's owners left for the race earlier today, surrounded by a crush of well-wishers and reporters.
"As soon as I woke up this morning, I started thinking about the race," Funny Cide owner Larry Reinhardt told 7 News.
"I feel a lot more pressure.," added owner Harold Cring. "I just hope I can stay calm enough to watch the race and enjoy it."
The Sackets Six travelled the last leg of the trip to Belmont by school bus, as they have for the first two races.
"We're basically cheap," said owner J.P. Constance.
Two 7 News crews are at Belmont Saturday for the race, with reports at 11 p.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday.

I'm kinda dissapointed. My first horse race was the Preakness this year, and it wouldve been pretty cool to see one of the winning legs of a Triple Crown winner. Of course, its not like I remember much from the Preakness anyway (nor do most people who were in the infield).
