Nope you didn't see anything, those are 175mph sustained winds in that hurricane. Obviously, it's now a CAT 5.
Mandatory evacuations are now taking place along the southern LA coast and part of the Mississippi coast. This is definitely one for the record books. It even beats Camille which beat the crap out of New Orleans in '69. The satellite/vapor imagery shows just what a monster this thing is. Minimum central pressure is 907mb.
And not to mention all those off-shore oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. Ouch on the gas prices...
I did a research project on this once, and just a minimal Cat 5 storm (156mph) attacking New Orleans would bring 15 feet of water in the city. I don't even want to begin to imagine what this will do...
