The bottom line is these people need help, it doesn't matter what race they are.
Agreed.
BTW: Did any of you see Kayne West on the NBC telethon earlier tonight? His exact words, on TV, to millions of viewers and contributors-
"George W. Bush hates black people."
What kind of bullsh*t is this??? That was totally uncalled for and untrue...

Wow that is definitely a horrible thing to say. And I am no fan of GWB...
Agreed. There is a time and a place for politics, and a telathon for hurricane victims is not appropriate for politics. Democrat or Republican, white or black, people should know better. I imagine that his remark just lost the victims some money, as some people are going to be hesitant to give money to NBC after that comment.

The thing I'm questioning is, why didnt the mayor or even governor do something about evacuating people a week ahead of time when the warnings started, the mayor couldve instructed these hundreds of city school buses to shuttle those less fotunate out of the city and coordinate with the governors office for a shelter elsewhere. So, before people like Kanye West go making these idiotic remarks, he should think first and look at the entire picture of things, not his own political agenda.
Louisiana disaster plan, pg 13, para 5 , dated 01/00
'The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating'...

If people really care about the victims, they'll overlook their race.

As far as the looting goes, if they're trying to find food/water to survive, I don't have a problem. When they're going after TV's, etc., then there's a problem.
There would have been a lot fewer problems in New Orleans if the mayor had taken action when the problems with the levees were reported several years ago. Instead of spending the federal money that was given to them specifically to repair the levees, they spent it on other items. I feel sorry for the people as they have to suffer due to the short sightedness of the city leaders.
The Mayor of New Orleans is a total buffoon. He's not impressing anyone getting on TV ranting and raving saying he's pissed. Man what a great example he's setting for his Police, Fire, civil workers, and most importantly the people of Louisiana.
He hasn't called for calm and order once on TV, he just keeps ranting how nobody is doing anything to help. Shut your mouth and be a leader instead of a spineless crybaby who just wants to blame everyone else for what is happening. Maybe after this they should rewrite their emergency evacuations plans. I don't accept any reason why they didn't have plans in the event a levy broke and flooded the city. You can't just say, "oh we never thought it would happen", the dam city is below sea level and has a history of being hit with Hurricanes of course it could happen. The fault here is with the city and the state and nobody else. Stop blaming the President for what is happening.
I can easily see how there is so much looting going on. There's a saying that goes "if the head of the body isn't working, either will the rest of the body” New Orleans head is their Mayor and he isn't right in the head.
