Saw it last night and it is great! Yeah I think Jodie Foster calls it an E474 in the movie.

The square corners are not necessarily "structurally less strong" when it is new. The main reason for that is square has small radius of curvature at the corners, which when under pressure (as in aircraft is pressurized), the stress is magnified at the corner, which leads to premature fatigue and ultimately their failure.

Saw it last night. Overlooking a few technical absurdities, I found it very entertaining. I think probably the biggest thing that annoyed me, technically speaking, was the trapezoidal windows. Those things were huge! And nobody makes windows with corners--they're all rounded. The square corners are structurally less strong than rounded corners and this was the cause of so many Comet crashes back in the '50s.

Is it E474 or A474? Some people are saying A474

Oh, so it really was filmed on an A380 model, like yyz-yvr said.

I saw the movie last night. I really liked it. I mostly enjoyed the aircraft interior and the cool features it had onboard. The only thing that bothered me were the turbulence noises. They sounded like a public transportation bus. The plot of the movie was excellent and had me in suspense at times, especially when the mother was playing around with the oxygen masks and electrical system......pretty clever of her.

I saw it. The name they gave it was not real. It was based on the A380, becuase they filmed it on one of the models. Overall the movie was good, but I wouldn't go to see it just for the aviation although it does play a bigger role in this movie than some.
