Hi all,
Today, Richard, another one of our friends and I went spotting at Hong Kong international airport. And what a day it was!
First up, we reached the end of rwy 25L, and took some pictures there of aircraft taking off. Then out of the absolute blue, it started pouring - pouring like u can't imagine. So we hitched a ride back to the airport with two extremely nice airport employees.
Once we reached the airport, we just lounged about for a bit, waiting for the thunderstorm to subside. After the rain had more or less died down, we sneaked into the Regal Airport Hotel, and got to the 8th floor, which offfered a grrreat view of the rwy. After a while, Richard (thanks a lot dude) found this amazing place on the 8th floor. It was a derelict stoorrom kind of place, which offered a fantastiv view of the entire tarmac and both runways (did I mention that we would have been in great trouble if caught?
)
Anyway, that's not the end of it. Our first day spotting and we saw an emergency. This Cathay A340 landed on 25R, and there were these 5-6 fire engines chasing it all the way down the runway, and then they escorted it to a lonely parking spot. It didn't even offload the plane. Just think of it, our first day spotting, and we see an emergency (Need I say that we went click crazy? :P
)
Then we got outta there coz we didn't wanna get caught, and made for the airport main entrance, from which we got a great view of aircraft landing on both 25 L and R. All in all, a lovely day, except for a bit of a run in with a dumb cop (details not important here).
Finally, tired as hell, we came back home. All in all a wonderful day.
I got some great (well in my opinion) pictures of both normal aircraft and the emergency. I'll upload them here, but since it was my first day spotting, they may not get accepted - however, i'll post the rejects on the forum so u guys can see them (the emergency pics).
Cheers,
Tanuj.
