Any fall pictures? (pictures)

Sometime this week I'm going with some friends to take some pictures of fall colours. Some great pictures are to be had this time of year. Anyone going to get any?

I haven't been out that much yet to take pictures, but here's a couple from the limited time I have spent:

The first thing that came to mind when I say the title of the thread was pictures of people falling . Damn I have a sick mind now, probably infected by people here

Good to know they haven't really started downtown yet, I'd like to get down there to take pictures of the various animals..Squirrels, chipmunks, pigeons, punk kids..They're much friendlier downtown then they are here in the suburbs

As of now, there is one tree that turned orange, with half the leaves gone already, and one branch of another tree turning yellow. The rest are still in boring green colour.
The squirrels do like to chase each other...so you better get out of the way!

It's beautiful up in the Peterborough to Ottawa area (all along Hwy 7). Lots of nice red leaves this year.

They remind me of flowers sometimes...Turn colour or bloom for one day and next thing you know it's all over.

I gotta go in the other direction on HWY7 sometime. I always seem to end up going towards Georgetown and the Credit River.

I have one I took on Saturday with the camera in my phone ; the trigger needs a good push to operate so that's why the photo is tilted. Quite hazy day as well.

Heidelberg, pic taken from either Molkenkur or Königstuhl mountain railway station. Most of the buildings to the left of the chimney are the natural science part of my university. The closest part of town you can see is the historical part with all the tourist traps and other parts of uni.

I'll try, I had to wear a tie to work today, I'm experiencing less blood flow to the head than usual :P

I'm still looking into this, so I'm sure there will be some error here. I'm sure (and hope) people with more experience will jump in. :P

The most important thing was to trust the camera and lense Something I forgot about was that the camera focuses wide open. So I'd focus, and go by what I was seeing at f/2.8 (depending on the lense of course, in this case a Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 Macro) though the view finder. When I look at what the scale on the lense said, things don't match up (in hindsight that is). Finding out what those two rows of numbers+lines+dots mean is like learning to use a level when you put up a shelf. Makes things go MUCH smoother. There's always the DOF Preview button on the camera, but I can't really see a lot of detail in the VF depending on the lighting, and wether I'm wearing glasses or contacts. :/ The EVF my P&S was really more of a crutch than I thought.

In a scenic shot, it's better to close down some and use a tripod. You'll get a greater DOF, and you'll also get less hard lines due to the slower shutter speed...Apparently this is more pleasing to the eye and gives nicer lines to follow. Just about all the scenic stuff I've done has been at f/8 or wider to get some decent shutter speeds handheld. While the subject or center of the scene was in focus, the foreground was out of focus and draws the eye into that area. I guess any out of focus portion is NOT what you want to see first. Cropping can fix that, but it seems like a bit of a cheat.

I'm not sure how to get decent shots with a breeze though, maybe a shot with a slower shutter speed, then another with a faster speed and then combine elements you want?

Using google to search "depth of field" has tons of good info though. Good to sit and read with your camera in hand. Best learning project I've undertaken in sometime.

I think I've jsut touched the surface, too early to call it knowledge yet, more like new found hint of a general direction

What a work day. A meeting then spending the day reading camera related subjects (I brought the camera to practice along even, "thank you" to who ever installed locks on the doors here!) and reviews on the Dodge Magnum. I don't think I'll have time to crawl under my desk for a nap.

Not a great picture, a little dark, but you get the idea. The colours are getting very nice here.
