Holy crap! and here I was feeling sorry for myself with 3GB.

Right now I'm downloading at around 7kb/sec. With broadband going full steam ahead it's around 35kb/sec (amounting to around 3-4 minutes for a 4-5mb song)

    What speed do others have?

Normally it's around 350KB/s download and 80KB/s upload.

Broadband over here in NZ is really behind. Messerschmitt Man, you should check out Orcon, its $40 including 1 GB then $10 per extra 10 GB. And its at 2 mbps

Problem for me though is I'm on a year long contract with Telecom. If I pull out now they will want back their modem and connection fee. I was planning on staying with Telecom for the year then switching. I wonder though if there is a loop hole, so I could pull out with telecom now and switch to Orcon without needing to return the modem.

So Let me understand this; I'm paying $50 with telecom for 3GB with around 35 kb/sec. With Orcon I can pay the same amount for 11GB with 2 mbps?

I think we might be onto something here Mungous. What about If I cancelled my contract with Telecom and returned my modem etc. If I then joined up with Orcon would they give me a "free" modem?

Yep I think you get a free modem and stuff as well. Might be worth the $100, that's about the price of the modem anyway.

Don't confuse 2 mbps (megabits) with 2 MBps (megabytes). Looks like you're only on 256 kbps if you're getting between 30 and 40 KB/s downloads.
