After 32 years the Socceroos will return to Germany, scene of their one previous FIFA World Cup™ finals appearance, for next summer's finals after beating Uruguay 4-2 on penalties in front of 83,000 spellbound spectators in Sydney's Telstra Stadium.
Congrats! Great to see the Aussies back in the football (NOT soccer ) world cup!!
Congrats to Australia, they already know the stadiums from the Confed cup, so they have a slight advantage already.
Now the only thing left to do is for the Swiss to defeat Turkey .
I see the Socceroos are looking for a coach - Eddy Jones - he's your man. As much as it PAINS me (as we did not make the finals - but in 2010 the circus will be in "our town") to congratulate the Aussies - well done lads.
Let's bet the Socceros won't wait 32 more years until 2038 and provided the event is held in Germany again before qualifying for a third time.
Congrats for real newbies of the time which will be Angola, Ivory Coast, Togo, Ghana and last but not least Trinitad and Tobago set to act as the underdog as did Cuba in '38, Morocco in '70, Australia and Zaire in '74, Tunisia in '78, Cameroon in '82, Iraq and Algeria in '86, Jamaica in '98 and Sénégal in '02.
