  • Any NASCAR Fans?

Are there any NASCAR fans here on JP.net? I saw a couple people talk about it in another thread & was curious who the fans are here.

Personally, I'm a huge fan. I went to the Coca-Cola 600 from 1998-2002 & will be going to the Pepsi 400 in Daytona in a couple weeks. Along with Daytona & Charlotte, I've been to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Walt Disney World Speedway & Homestead-Miami Speedway, and have seen Dover & Atlanta Motor Speedway from the air.

    My favorite drivers are:
    -Jeff Gordon
    -Jimmie Johnson
    -Jamie McMurray

    Anybody else?

Well it's alot more exciting then golf and tennis.

I used to follow NASCAR alot more when Joe Gibbs racing used Pontiac Grand Prixs, ever since they changed I haven't followed it as much but I still support Stewart and Labonte.

Also like Mark Martin, Joe Nemecheck, and Christian Fittipaldi.

I like some of the underdogs.

I like Martin and Joe. If Fittipaldi would get into a few more races i bet he would do fine in the series.

Don't know why Fittipaldi can't seem to qualify more often.

I just like to see some of the other guys win rather than the standard Gordon/Stewart/Marlin/Earnhardt Jr crowd.

Speaking of Earnhardt; after his death, there were people actually making death threats against Marlin and accusing him of being a murderer! Talk about taking a sport a little too seriously. I was no big Earnhardt fan either way, but I certain don't think Marlin killed the guy.

HAHA. Its the sport. Thoose are the risks you take in participating in it. If the belt didnt break i bet he would still be racing today. And if my memory does serve me correctly(which it usually doesnt)...didnt Earnhardt seem to cut up into Marlin??

Earnhardt drove very agressively, and I think it may have finally caught up with him. For some reason, he cut into Marlin like you said, but some are accusing Marlin of tapping his bumper and causing the crash.

Now, if that is true, then those that believe that "rubbin is racing" shouldn't be complaining now and accusing Marlin of doing something wrong or out of malice.

                      It's a risky sport.

And that is the risk you take. And those are the consequences if you screw up.

Earnhardt was called the Intimidator for a reason. Over his racing career he sent hundreds of cars and drivers into the wall with almost exactly the same bumper tap that put him into one. It isn't Marlin's fault that Earnhardt's safety equipment failed on that day.

Sometimes when you live by the sword you die by it too.

Personally I never cared for Earnhardt as a driver because I always felt that he drove a slightly dirty race. I will say he was a talented driver and was better with his fans than many of the top Nascar drivers. I just never felt that bumping was necessary for him or any other driver to win.
