I am Jewish and I love Christmas and say 'Merry Christmas' loud and proud. While I may not celebrate the religious aspect, I do exchange gifts and even have a Hanukkah bush (aka X-Mas tree) in my house. Christmas is simply great.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY HANUKKAH, HAPPY KWANZA, HAPPY HOLY-DAYS.

    Aldo

As we were checking out, the woman at the register said "Happy Holidays". I just shook my head. We were BUYING A CHRISTMAS TREE FOR GOD SHAKES! I can't belive how politicaly correct and wrong our country is becomming. I don't know about the rest of the world, but as for America, Christmas is a federal holiday, and thus, to EVERY AMERICAN WHO READS THIS, BE THEY JEWISH, CHRISTIAN, ATHEIEST OR ANYTHING ELSE:

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Also, on the 6th of January, is the Feast of the Epiphany, when the three wise men got to the Christ Child. That is the 12 days of Christmas, from the 25th to the 6th, hence the song. But another thing about this date. which is umpteen times more important, is my birthday .
    Cheers,
    A.M.

    Never trust Hollywood.

In liturgical terms, the preparation for Christmas (Advent) begins on the first Sunday after the 26th of November.

    Cheers.
Hmm...didn't know any of that (except the Hollywood part). I'd heard the Eastern Orthodox Church uses a different calendar, but didn't realize Christmas was on a different day. And I definitnely didn't know the preparations for Christmas actually started on a specific date. Still seems it's guaranteed to be after Thanksgiving, so that's good!

Christmas time is election time in Canada, so I would like to share with everyone the joys of the season:

On the twelfth day of campaigning, democracy gave to me…

    # Twelve … beers and popcorn
    # Eleven… billion promised
    # Ten… frozen provinces
    # Nine… blathering bloggers
    # Eight… pundits puzzling
    # Seven… spinners spinning
    # Six… scandals sizzling
    # Five … per cent GST
    # Four … live debates
    # Three … day-care photo ops
    # Two … tiered health care
    # … and a politician in a bare tree.

    ...courtesy of cbc.ca

I wish everyone a happy elexmas and better luck next year

I'd go for the latter of the two, Andy . I'm just kidding with ya, but in my family, we always exchange gifts Christmas morning. AFAIK, that's how alot of American families who celebrate do it.
    Cheers,
    A.M.

Christmas starts as you rush to get your presents on the 24th and lasts until the last one is unwrapped at around 5.30am on the 25th!

Or am I just an old cynic?
