Very true. I have to fix the thing up first anyways...that includes two new tires, the cost of which alone will offset the gas savings. I think I'm gonna look into that 400 dollar fare a bit more...thanks Mike

Next summer...probably sometime in June or July...in fact, that sounds like a pretty great deal. I might just go for it

The other thing to keep in mind is that my car is pretty good on gas...it costs me just under 50 bucks to fill it (unless I really hose the tank dry), and if it's all highway miles, it'll get me almost 700km per tank. I'd have to run the numbers, but because gas is cheaper in the USA, I'd figure about 600 bucks CAD for gas...anyways, the flight sounds good though, it'd be a good excuse to try out United

That idea actually came to mind, although I checked airlines like NWA (almost $800US from MSP) and the like...the problem lies in that there's no major airports in the States close to me other than MSP (and maybe GFK or FAR, at both of which NWA is pretty much the only game in town)...so that might just be a bit expensive. I'm still thinking of driving, but that's also subject to my parents letting me have their car for two weeks Anyways, if anybody has suggestions on cool places to stop/things to see/do along the way (roughly the same route that Mike plotted out there), it'd be appreciated.

Thanks for the help so far people

Yes, it'd be shorter. But it costs more, I checked.

And Van Hoolio has a good point, mabey you could drive to a US airport that has better fares to RNO.

The cheepest I found so far was on Air Canada and United. Its listed as $643 round trip but the taxes and fee's bring the fare up to $811.

    Jazz:YWG-YYC
    Skywest(United Express): YYC-SFO-RNO
    total time: 10hrs 54 mins

    Skywest(United Express): RNO-SFO
    Air Canada: SFO-YYC
    Jazz: YYC-YWG
    total time: 11hrs 54 mins.

Thats the best I could find. How long is the drive by the way?

If you decide to drive, I would suggest planning on some sightseeing time in the Rockies. A suggestion is to drive through Colorado going one way and spending time in Rocky Mountain National Park, then going the other way take the northern route through the Tetons and Yellowstone. Much great scenery anywhere in the Rockies!!!

    Cheapest Way from YWG-RNO...help!

Ok, (really) long story, but I'm planning on going to Reno next year, and I'm completely lost on ways to get there without spending tons of money (I'm an aviation student, and as a result, I'm always in a bit of a cash crisis)...so I figured someone here would be able to help me out. Basically, what I'm looking at is getting from Winnipeg to Reno, sometime in summer 2006 (I have a place to stay there already, I'm visiting a friend) as cheap as possible...and also some ideas as to what there is to see on the way (if I decide to drive it)...
Working...
