  • Bin Laden offers truce

Conflicting message here, eh? I'll give you a truce, and I'm also gonna attack you?

Anyways, f**k him. No way we will ever agree to anything with this (insert vulgar and obscene words here).

Here's parts of what he said (from BBC)-

On the other hand, the mujahideen, praise be to God, have managed to breach all the security measures adopted by the unjust nations of the coalition time and again.

The evidence of this is the bombings you have seen in the capitals of the most important European countries of this aggressive coalition.

As for the delay in carrying out similar operations in America, this was not due to failure to breach your security measures.

Operations are under preparation, and you will see them on your own ground once they are finished, God willing.

Days and nights will not go by until we take revenge as we did on 11 September, God willing, and until your minds are exhausted and your lives become miserable and things turn [for the worse], which you detest.
Which conflicts a little with this-

Based on the above, we see that Bush's argument is false. However, the argument that he avoided, which is the substance of the results of opinion polls on withdrawing the troops, is that it is better not to fight the Muslims on their land and for them not to fight us on our land.

We do not object to a long-term truce with you on the basis of fair conditions that we respect.

Don't know... how would they get this information? They're not able to examine him, so I don't see how they would be able to get informatio like that.

Thanks a million Shrub. Your little piss on terror really makes us all feel safer, what with terrorists publicly threatening us, Americans getting kidnapped in Iraq, embassies getting bombed across the world...yeah, Shrub really rules doesn't he...

How many times have we been attacked since 9/11...?

Does that statistic make me feel safer? No.

Does a public threat by the leader of a terrorist group against my country make me feel safer? No.

I can't live my life hiding behind a statistic, when it's completely meaningless in this context.

Well, I hate to break it to you, but you haven't been safe for the last 13 years or so. We were attacked by OBL long before Bush came into office.

I know that. I'm worried about what's happening now, not what happened 13 years ago.

And we have never been attacked on such a large scale by OBL.

Well, if the 1993 WTC bombing had gone as planned then the casualties would have easily topped those of 9/11. They were trying to topple the WTC towers into each other, which would kill tens of thousands as no one would have time to evacuate. They just underestimated the strength of the buildings.

And of course we should be worried about what is going on now. We just shouldn't be blaming all of this on Bush, because it was going on long before he became president.

Although I don't agree with a lot of the BS going on in the US. OBL is not a nice guy, and his truce offer shouldn't be trusted. We would have been much better off if we focused on catching him, instead of running off to Iraq (nobody even talks about Afghanistan anymore). Not to mention not had the whole world disliking America. And if everyone was cooperating the world would probably much safer. But Bush messed it up.

We probably should have stayed out of Iraq. But we went in because we thought that they were an imminent threat. We were wrong, and we can't change that. I agree with pretty much most of what you say, however. Except everyone is pretty much cooperating-not militarily, but in thwarting attacks there is great cooperation.

                            It's much, much worse now.
It hasn't been too bad for us since 9/11. Regardless, something needed to be done. It was clear that doing nothing was not a solution, as doing nothing gave OBL the time and resources to pull off 9/11. We are putting pressure on him, and now he is becoming weaker.

Case and point- he is offering a truce. That is a sign of weakness on his part.

I still think the pressure is being put in the wrong place. It should be in Afghanistan, not Iraq. That's where OBL most likely is, that's where we can get him.
