  • Countdown timer?

Do you know about countdown timer on the traffic lights?

  • #2
I've heard about them, but don't know all the specific details. Emergency vehicle's will use them during an emergency to help set the intersection to green
so it will be a little safer to get through a intersection. I believe they also can be bought through the internet. I saw on the news not to long ago someone had got arrested for using one of these so he would set the lights to green and get to work faster. I think they are based on infra-red, but not sure. Was this what you were thinking about?

Maybe he means this kind of countdown?

They have these installed all over Taipei and Shanghai (of the very limited places I've visited) I think they are a good feature for pedestrians.

I've seen these, too. I was thinking the other because of what I heard on the news. That's what I thought he meant, but I think your right. We have the type you have in your photo here in San Francisco and are very common.

They have them to get the seniors and people carrying babies to run. lol

Actually it is because too many people were entering the crosswalks on the flashing hand and getting stuck in the middle of traffic when the light changes. This way people (with brains) know how many seconds they have left.

^^Yeah considering you cross it by about 5-6 seconds aprox (Seniors)

You better run if it says 3 sec left. or go back. !
