I can't wait for the world cup. Professional swimmers/divers will be stunned.

Yes. But that doesn't change the fact that it is either a red card + free kick or yellow card + goal. (If you give the goal it is a yellow card for the tackle itself, but no longer red since you are no longer taking away a goalscoring opportunity, despite some (on other forums) who claims it should be both). It's easy for everybody to say that 'he should've given the advantage' ... Giuly got there first, yes, but he wasn't right next to the ball when Eto'o was fouled. I've refereed myself and it is easy in these situations to not wait long enough. But imagine if he hadn't blown the whistle, and 2 seconds later Cole had beaten Giuly with a sliding tackle, then the ref had blown the whistle and sent off Lehmann. Then most people would have complained just as much, or even more, and wondered what drugs he was high on.

I've refereed myself (much lower level of course!) and that situation is one of the few situations where your mind instantly goes "red card" (just like a violent behaviour situation). Technically we can talk about how he should have waited and so on, but that isn't the natural instinct, especially when other players aren't close to the ball.

I must admit I'm actually disappointed with Barcelona, with such a class team they shouldn't have struggled so much breaking down a 10-man Arsenal. Guess they really need Messi after all.

Apart from the fact that Eto'o scored an offside goal.

At 75 minutes, I thought Barcelona was out. I seriously thought the game would be Arsenal 1-0. But then Barcelona came through.

It was a pretty good game overall, I don't think Arsenal can use the 10 player thing as an excuse for their loss though, Barcelona just kicked ass the last 15 mins.

I had expected a better game, but I'm happy about the result.
My sympathies to Jens Lehmann, though.
