Congratulations to the HARTFORD WHALERS. I'd be happier if the team was still in Hartford.

Didn't Markanen play freakin incredible though. That guy earned my respect. He wasn't tested a whole lot before game 7, but I dont think either of the goals he allowed were his fault.

Still living in the past, eh? Seems to me that the Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup...

Jesus Christ. Edmonton should be demoted to the WHL for the way they played. Carolina put the pressure on and they caved. A horrible showing from Edmonton and a good showing from Carolina.

PS - Carolina isn't a deserving city for the cup, IMO.

I agree. I have never heard of a city named Carolina, and a city that doesn't exist certainly doesn't deserve a cup!

Now Raleigh, on the other hand, is very deserving of the Stanley Cup. The fans have been in this thing from the beginning, even showing up at the airport at 2 or 3 AM to greet the Hurricanes' plane arriving from away games. The 'Caniacs have been waiting for this, and I'm glad that they finally got their wish. Parade is in downtown Raleigh today at 6:30 pm, and free parking! If I wasn't having my wisdom teeth taken out today I would be up there in a flash...

Same could be said for the "New England Patriots", but 3 Super Bowls hasn't stopped them

As far as them not deserving it, people said the same about Tampa Bay last year.....

I'm just glad there was no ceremonial "burning of the city" that seems to have become prevelent lately after a city wins a major sports title.

If this trend continues, the Phoenix....errr Winnipeg Jets will win it soon

As soon as basketball and NASCAR start, they are going to forget about the cup. Their fan base during the regular season is laughable. They are all front-runners...The cup belongs to Canada.

NBC covered the presenting of the cup for like 15min, while CBC had coverage for about another hour!

Couldn't be more wrong. The very first game of the season was sold out, long before there was any talk of the Hurricanes competing for the Stanley Cup. Last night over 30,000 people took to the streets to celebrate, and a similar number participated in a parade through downtown Raleigh. Like it or not, for the next year the Stanley Cup belongs to Raleigh.

Two words sums up why they're so interested in the cup down there...
