  • AMD vs. Intel

    Which is better?

  • #2
There is no scientifically better one sorry

It's just like Nikon vs Canon, Ford vs Holden, Airbus vs Boeing, McDonald's vs Burger King etc. Both have their pros and cons; some are more compatible with certain systems and stuff. Some AMDs have a better cache than Intel's though, or so the geeks claim

Not nessicarily. AMD is accually better than Intel.

Think of it this way, I use this to descirbe Power PC processors (the former one on Macs) vs. Intel. Think of a water pipe thats 5 feet and one thats 30 feet, it takes the water shorter to reach the end on 5 feet vs. the 30 foot pipe.

Thats the way it is at AMD, there pipes are shorter, and yes processors have pipes per-se because info has to travel through something to be processed. AMD also offers a 64-bit varriant which is double of what Intel currently offers (caue Intel is still in the 90's with 32-bit).

However, Intel offers the Dual-Core processor nativ only to Macs right now and with reason, but they still arnt as powerful as the AMD varriant when it comes to processing speed. Intel just needs to shorten the pipe and stop dicking around with imitation-dual-core and just make a true daul core for PC. Thats what the Power PC G5 is, pure dual core so your Mac G5 at 2.5GHz is accually a 10GHz computer.

Yes, AMD is better, they would have gotten the Mac deal, but they could not produce Processors fast enough to meet the demand that mac had.

PC's also need to get there ass out of the 60's and stop using BIOS's and do what Mac does.

A "virtual BIOS" in the sense, there is no physical BIOS chip in the computer, the OS simply emulates it on startup making booting faster and less wonky. Everything BIOS wise can be changed on the fly inside the OS.

Uh kevin, hate to tell yah, but the dual cores are in PC's, severl laptops and now desktops are already shipping with them. The Intel duo chips run faster then AMD's.

Desktops and Laptops have only had the Core Duo for the past few weeks, im a bit behind

The Core Duo does run faster than a lot of the middle market AMD processors, but no ware as fast as the AMD 64-bit Dual Core or Dual Core-Dual Processor PC's.

AMD has had dual core chips for over a year now.. They started with the Opteron and FX lines, then filtered down the the Athlon chips a few months ago.
