  • Dorm Essentials?

Hi guys, I've been away from the forums for a long time. Just came back onto this site, been busy with work, working out at gym etc. Im going to Stony Brook University starting september as a pre-med major and will be dorming. I just wanted to get the advice of people here who already are in college and dorm. I want to know some essential things that I should be ready to bring with me when I move in. What do you guys suggest that would be helpful??
I just went and picked my classes, I am taking

    Honors Calc I
    Honors Chem
    Psych 101
    Writing 101
and a BS intro to Stony Brook class

Ok you have all the essentials from chrisburns.

You will need condoms and you will need a leakproof bucket (don't throw up on the floor!).

And lots of change to play cards or do your laundry.

As a father there are a few things I don't want...grandchildren, cleaning bills and dirty laundry.

                    Remember "HAVE FUN".

You know whats scary about your statement, its almost like in a way, when your kids grow up, you like sure have sex, just no grandchildren, if I had a daughter, she wouldnt be leaving home

whatever you do, dont end up bringing too much crap to school. I gaurentee you, no matter how much crap you bring, you'll show up and go "whoa...where the **** am I going to fit all this crap?"

Also, your roomate will want to kick your ass on a regular basis if you have your crap laying all over the floor at all times. Trust me, I had a roomie who pretty much brought everything he owns from home, had it all over the floor to the point that it was impossible to walk around. He was an absolute tool

I say show up with the bare minimum, and as you need stuff, go out to walmart and get it. Its much easier (and maybe cheaper) than trying to fit a bunch of crap into a suitcase.

Part of being in college, as you'll soon learn is collecting random crap. Like the pair of tongs that Blooodhound96 accidentally took from the dining hall.

Spoons, forks, knives, a ketchup bottle and a pair of salt/pepper shakers...just some of the stuff I too "accidentally" took from the dining hall at various points during the year.
"The Director also sets the record straight on what would happen if oxygen masks were to drop from the ceiling: The passengers freak out with abandon, instead of continuing to chat amiably, as though lunch were being served, like they do on those in-flight safety videos."
