If you find a decent, reasonably priced one Ian, let me know will you? I'd like to have a bash at starting my own website too.

I purchased my hosting package from eBay. I probably sound crazy but the deal I found was unbeatable by any company or individual and offers everything you could possibly want out of web hosting. It is provided by a company called Centrica Hosting and a year's hosting with unlimited webspace and data transfer, along with a complete control panel and much much more. And this company's services can easily compete with the larger, better-known ones. They offer an identical service and 99.9% uptime. You also get unlimited email accounts!

I now have two accounts with them and have never had any problems.

For 5.95/$9.95 a year, they are definitely worth a try. If you don't like it, you don't feel like you've wasted your money.

I'm upgrading my own server at the beginning of September. I'm looking at probably charging $10/month for 2GB of space. I'm going to have 270GB of HDD I'm not going to be using, so it may as well be made available for other railway and aviation enthusiasts to use. PHP, MySQL, shell access, etc. The usual stuff. If anyone's interested to know when it's available, let me know.

www.swifthost.net extremely reliable paid hosting, cPanel X + Fantastico (I was lucky enough to get a free account with them )

www.50webs.com good free host, over the couple of years I've used them there hasn't been any downtime. HTML & JS only though, but you can add your own domain name. 50 MB space and unlimited bandwidth

Excellent value but you can still get plenty more than what they're offering for 10 less. I would seriously consider the option I mentioned above. They are professional, reliable and offer great support and value for money.

It must sound like I work for this company.. but I should assure you that I don't!

                          www.ixwebhosting.com

They take care of everything, and you get a lot of bang for the buck, especially over godaddy
