  • State of Emergency in Thailand

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra declared a state of emergency in Bangkok on Wednesday shortly after Reuters witnesses saw tanks surrounding Government House.

"I declare Bangkok under a severe state of emergency," he said in a voice broadcast on Thai television.

Thaksin, who is in New York at a
United Nations summit, ordered troops not to "move illegally."

    Yikes, this could be interesting.

Pretty crazy over there it seems. I was reading the MSNBC account, which said the Prime Minister has been ousted and martial law has been declared. Tanks in the streets of Bangkok.

From the BBC: "A spokesman for the coup leaders, Gen Prapart Sakuntanak, said the seizure would be temporary and power "returned to the people" soon."

Yeah, right. That's what they all say.

Thanks for summing it up, it always amazes me to see these type of things happen in our modern day world. I hope things soon settle down, my guess is they will once the leader is ousted. I plan to visit Thailand soon after I get out of highschool for "buisness", or to get into some rather.

Not nearly as much as I can get for $50 there. Anyway, lets not take this thread anymore offtopic. Rather serious situation.

Quite intresting. Do you think the Prime minister will return back to Thailand or will he stay away now?
