Drag Racing Filmed at 1000 fps

A high quality slow motion camera films drag races at 1000 frames per second.
Its pretty cool to see the tires spin off the starting lines as well as the individual cylinders flying.

    --------

The spinning wheels looks amazing as the car accelerate, it kinda curls while spinning at launch. Enjoy the video.

The tires "wrinkle" due to 7,000+ horsepower trying to be applied to the concrete.

Also... Did You Know......that they only run 6.5 - 7.0 pounds of tire pressure in those big Good Year tires?

Doesn't it have something to do regarding the tire pressure because if it was any higher, it can't withstand the high force or whatever you call it, thus it would explode or something. ???

Atleast that's what I understood about it when I was watching extreme machines on Discovery Channel.

Nitro Top Fuel are up to about 8000 hp now, If you have never been to a race guys go to one if you can, when they hit the gas peddle your whole body shakes you will love it. Here's a couple of my shots from Grand Bend , in the Jet shot people were told to move back away from the fence some didn't and look at them run now.

                Hey Steve
Yes it was a IHRA National event we don't any NHRA events here ,yet just 2 IHRA one at Grand Bend and the other at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga ont, they put on first rate shows at both strips.I been going to the drags for over 30 years now and one of these I like to get to a NHRA event in either Columbus or Reading Pa either one is 6 hr or 10 hr from here.

I can't remember the exact ET & speed but the truck is capable of 7.50s at a speed of over 200mph.

Actually the tire pressure is so low so the tires CAN wrinkle which creates greater traction out of the hole. Having tires with higher psi will generate a loss of traction.

                        Dale,

I've been going for about 30 years also since I was a kid. FYI, the NHRA Columbus event will be moved to Norwalk starting in 2007. NHRA shows simply kick a$$, I love 'em!!!! But I also love to go to the local Nostalgia Drags as well.

                          Steve

Is the Columbus event going to be still under NHRA sanction or are they moving it to IHRA?

There will be no more NHRA National Event at Columbus anymore. NHRA is moving that event to Norwalk. So as of next year who knows what'll happen at Columbus.

That's right I forgot that Norwalk switched sanctions since Bill Bader Jr is no longer President of IHRA.
