Speeding ticket question..

Well, i have a question to anyone who knows, this was just an hour ago, and i was coming back from work, and there is this SUV which cut me off on a two lane road, so i stay behind him and then switch lanes at a light and just resume my own lane but i reved the engine and the tires screeched when i pulled out of the light, as i pull up to the other light, to my surprise a police car pops out of nowhere behind me, right on my ass. He changed the lanes as i did after that, and made the same turn, so me being parniod and guilty of speeding, i pull over to the side of the road, and he just passes me (i already had my license and reg. out :P ) He stayed behind me for quite a while, maybe running the plates? But i KNOW that he saw me pull out of the light like that, but he just let me go??

I'm not going to have to expect anything in the mail a few days ffrom now am i?

Do they have any photo-rader stuff in your area? Ever see any vehicles that suddenly emit a flash of light?

If not, I wouldn't worry about it.

I had the same thing happen to me a couple weeks ago in Alberta. I was going 170KPH (110KPH limit) and suddenly there's lights behind me :X But the cop just went flying by me.. Scared me good though

nope, no photo-radar devices on that road, this was during rush hour, (stupid of me to speed) But literally the cop pulled out of nowhere. As soon as i looked back thinking that i could get pulled over, and BAM hes behind me. Just freaked me out though...


BTW, the way i was going passes a police station, maybe he was going there hahaha...

Probably just running your plates. That has happened to me before, if cops know you've been in trouble before, they have a higher chance of pulling you over.

Like you said, it is rush hour, so he probably had more important things to do then just give out tickets to a first time offenser.

Yeah gotta watch the speed next time..not really a first time offense though, guess he just took sympathy on me haha

Anyways, the cops are the ones that usually seem to be the ones going the fastest even without their lights on. And they can't just look at your car and say you were speeding. They need the radar for that.

yeah, he had actually turned onto that street from the side i remember, thats why i didn't see him before. Yup, i just got lucky that he didn't pull me over, i thought i was screwed right after he made the same turn as me and was tailgating like a mother...

If he didn't pull you over and hand you a ticket I would say there is no problem.

Not true. From what I've been told, here in Nassau County, Long Island at least, they are trained to estimate speed (within +/- 2mph) and are considered expert witnesses in court.

And PIAA310, if he didn't stop you and issue a ticket, don't expect to receive one in the mail. Speeding is a moving violation, and would be issued to the driver of the car. Those photo-violations for running red lights (at least in NY) are not considered true moving violations, and are issued to the registered owner, thus they can send you one in the mail. And from the sounds of it, if he was going to stop you for what you did, I don't think it would have been for speeding. Revving the motor and squeeling the tires usually gets you ticketed for something like a "speed exhibition" rather than speeding. In that case, it doesn't matter how fast you were going, just that you were "showing off" with the car. But as I said, if he didn't stop you at the time, you should be fine.

hahaha Max, still a VW with 150 right now.

Upgrading to the 335i 300hp twin turbo in december (when it gets here)... 300hp is what BMW says, but they dyno'd the car at around 345, all the better i guess haha
