  • The Election Day 2006 Thread

Well, I just voted. I hope every American on these forums that is a registered voter did the same or will be doing the same sometime today.

A few predictions for my state:

    Governor:
Ed Rendell will sweep to an easy victory

    U.S. Senate (Senator from Pennslyvania):
    Bob Casey

    My Representative, 4th District (House):
Too close for me to tell, but I have a feeling it will be Jason Altmire

46th District, Senator in the Commonwealth of Pennslyvania General Assembly:
    Incumbant, unopposed: J. Barry. Stout

Representative in the Commonwealth of PA General Assembly 46th District:
I'm not sure where the numbers are, but this one could be close

    May the best man win!!

God Bless America and the principles enshrined in our Constitution!

I always vote, even in the midterm elections...you loose your right to bitch and complain if you dont vote, and I like to bitch and complain too much..hehhehe...although living in the state of Florida it has been proven that a Democrat's vote doesnt count - especially now that there is no papertrail Katherine Harris will have a field day with recounts if she doesnt win the senate race - heaven help us if she does!!

I voted a little while ago. None of our senate seats are up this year. And I don't see our house seats changing at all (3 Dems and 1 Rep).

I honestly don't understand why people DON'T vote unless they know nothing about the candidates or parties. Personally, I tend to lean to the democratic side.

Rhode Island has a bunch of stuff. I can't vote yet (until next year weeee..democrats 08 im voting!) but anyways:

        QUESTION ONE

A constitutional amendment to allow the Narragansett Indian Tribe and its business partner, Harrah's Entertainment, to build a casino in West Warwick. Rhode Island's constitution now bans privately owned casinos.

        QUESTION TWO

A constitutional amendment to permit felons to vote after they are released from prison. Right now, convicted felons cannot vote until they have completed their parole and probation sentences.

        QUESTION THREE

A change to the state constitution mandating that excess money in the capital bond fund be dedicated for capital projects starting in July 2007. It would also increase funding to the state's reserve or so-called rainy day account.

        QUESTION FOUR

This bond issue would allow state authorities to raise almost $73 million to construct a new building for the pharmacy college at the University of Rhode Island and to renovate the former Department of Children, Youth and Families facility at Rhode Island College.

        QUESTION FIVE

This bond issue would raise $88.5 million to pay for highway and bridge improvements and to service and buy more buses for the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority. Of the money raised, about $7 million would go toward expanding commuter rail service from Boston to communities south of Providence beginning in three years.

        QUESTION SIX

This bond issue would raise $11 million to help fund a renovation of Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence.

        QUESTION SEVEN

Seeks to raise $4 million for improvements to Fort Adams State Park in Newport. Half the money would be used to renovate worn-down parts of the fort, which dates from 1824, according to the Department of Environmental Management. The rest is earmarked for constructing a storage and meeting facility for groups that use the park's athletic fields.

        QUESTION EIGHT

This measure would authorize the DEM to raise up to $3 million for grants given to local communities interested in developing parks.

        QUESTION NINE

The measure would allow state authorities to raise $50 million to pay for affordable housing projects.

Question 1 is the most controversial thing I've ever seen. I personally don't want the casino since my mom works for Lincoln Park, a smaller facility that has machines and stuff. People are too f'n lazy to drive an hour to go to Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun. We dont need this damn casino in Warwick, what we need is a friggin RUNWAY EXTENTION!!!!!!!!

And I think the Senate for RI is:

        Whitehouse vs. Chafee

I've had people calling my house like 43059830948503 times in the past 2 days. WHITEHOUSE ALL THE WAY!!!!

          Well, glad to see voters!!!
I agree with you, DeltaFlyer: I don't want to lose my right to bitch and complain either!

We had one one referendum on the PA Ballot I failed to mention which was the Gulf War Veteran's Fund. Basically, veterans of that war who were residing in PA at the time get a small monetary amount for their service. I researched it before I went, but I couldn't make up my mind. Normally, it would be yes right off the bat for me, but it meant a fair amount of "indebtedness" for the state. But ultimately, I decided to vote yes in support of our veterans.

Well I'm still to young to vote, so it'll be a while before I head to the polls. As for my state of Wisconsin, current Governor Doyle (D) is supposed to have a slight advantage over Mark Green (R).

Paul you almost lost me $5 by voting for Lamont. :P

                      I voted for:

                      Governor: Bob Ehrlich (R)
                      U.S. Senator: Kevin Zeese (I)

For senate neither Cardin(D) or Steele(R) deserved to win imo, but it's MD so you know a Democrat is going to win regardless.

Did the Paul R. Nelson beat Ron Kind? Nelson's ads were HILARIOUS.

Looks like no casino here (thank god) and Whitehouse! GO DEMOCRATS!

ND is the only state that does not require any registration, you just need to show that you live in this state 'permanently'. For me that was just showing my drivers license.
