Ok heres what i want you to do...Very important that you follow it correctly. Firstly:

Taken from the very useful Dell support.
        Click ( http://ralphcaddell.com/Uploads/HjThis.exe ) to download a self-extractable version of HijackThis.

Double click on hijackthis.exe to extract hijackthis to folder c:\hijackthis.
It will extract it to that folder and open the folder for you.
It will also create a shortcut on your desktop to HijackThis.

It will scan and the log should open in notepad.Click on "Edit > Select
All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log Please include a description of any symptoms of malware that you are having.
Do not have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

the HIJACK LOG should look somthing like this when its done:

        Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1
Scan saved at 9:30:02 PM, on 1/1/2007

Sounds good, yeah, that will usually just shut down the whole computer and you cannot get out of it, then resorting to a manual shut down. Could be many reasons for that and i think one has been stated above already
