  • need help finding some songs for an english project

    alright
I have to do a project for the taming of the shrew in english class. I need to come up with four songs that correlate to themes expressed in the play.

    some of the themes are:
    Marriage as an Economic Institution
The Effect of Social Roles on Individual Happiness
Gender and the Battle Between the Sexes
    Domestic Violence
    Identity
    Family Politics
    Courtly Love v True Love
    The Social Conditioning of Women
Characters creating new identities and personas

does anyone know of any songs I might be able to use?

System of a Down might have a few. Their stuff usually deals with politics.

Marriage as an Economic Institution - Billy Joel: Uptown Girl (not marriage persay, but dating/hooking up nonetheless) OR Madonna: Material Girl (this one actually fits the theme pretty well)

Gender and the Battle Between the Sexes - Akon: Mr. Lonely OR The Fray: How to save a life OR Three Days Grace: I hate Everything About You OR Nancy Sinatra: These boots are made for walking

              Identity - U2: I Still Haven't found what I'm looking for

Domestic Violence - Johnny Cash: Cocaine Blues (to some extent, it's more about wife killing as a result of cocaine use)

Family Politics - Harry Chapin: Cats in the cradle (it doesn't get much better than this one for family issues) OR Pink Floyd: Mother (not entirely about family politics, but it's about a young man who's extremely dependent and attached to his mother and the effect she had on his life.) OR Kelly Clarkson: Because of you (This one fits in pretty well too)
"The Director also sets the record straight on what would happen if oxygen masks were to drop from the ceiling: The passengers freak out with abandon, instead of continuing to chat amiably, as though lunch were being served, like they do on those in-flight safety videos."

                "Justified Black Eye"

She was confused and abused in this life
                Emotional and violent moments
Seemed to take the longest time
                Every single knockout dragout
Fight they ever had. Apologies and
                Dignity denied he starts to
Laugh he starts to lie with
                Suddenly psychotic eyes.
                Every night she cried herself
                to sleep she didn't recognize
Her own face in the mirror
                Black & blue, so afraid
                Intimidation like a child she
                Hides away he would always
Try to justify what wasn't true
                Justified black eye
Taken for granted she sleeps by
The phone waiting for a call
From him but it seems he's never
                Coming home, 14 beers later
He is there without an answer
                Once again she questions his
Lies he goes to bed with
                No reply
                Tomorrow morning different
Story and he'll be a different
Guy, he'll justify her black eye
With another lie. She packs her
bags in great temptation he's on
His knees again he cries a hug
                & a kiss and a don't know why as
a tear drops from her swollen eye
                Apologies until tonight and another
                Justified black eye
