  • Bad Winds In The UK

Damn! Were getting hit by some pretty bad weather atm. I've counted 17 go-arounds in the past 3 hours! Hopefully it'll improve.

No chance, wheather is pretty f'd up right now all over Northwestern Europe. AMS is closed due to heavy winds, last I heard, and things here in Hamburg don't look too good either. Not sure about movements at the airports, but clouds are almost black, its raining very intensively, and winds are slowly climbing over the 100 kph mark. Things will get really ugly tonight.

Damn, that's bad. 9M-MRE has just called up diverting to LHR even though it's pretty bad there apparently, and also G-VROS departed LGW for MAN a few hours ago, aborted his approach whent in the hold for a while and had another go, aborted again and diverted back to LGW Not good atall!

EDIT - Manchester is now closed due to heavy winds and flying debris around the airport!

Cant imagine Leeds Bradford faring too well either as its windy there on a still day. Meant to be snow heading down at the weekend as well.

Just read the MD of Birmingham Airport (UK) has been killed in the storm
after a branch fell on his car.

New update from Hamburg and vicinity.
Our famous Fischmarkt is flooded, along with a few other areas close to the Elbe
Several high bridges around Hamburg have been closed to empty trucks and cars with trailors due to the winds
Multiple roads are blocked thanks to trees
Fire fighters are busy emptying dozens, if not hundreds of cellars across the city that have turned into impromptu swimming pools
And my personal joy, our roof has been punctured by the winds, and now our house is plastered with boxes trying to catch all the rain dripping through. Lovely.

Air Canada has a B763 damaged in LHR now. Fin 652 was to operate AC859 to YYZ when the wind blew the aircraft into a mobile stair unit. The railing on stair unit punctured the skin on the fuselage.

The wind blew the plane into the stairs? Isn't it normally the other way around?

Public transport and the Trains in Holland and Germany have stopped.
Suche gut gebaute 18-30 Jährigen zum schlachten.

Lots of flights cancelled here on the Isle of Man today, and the airport was closed for a while when Manx2.com Laet-410, OK-UBE, was lifted by the wind while taxiing out. It was caught by a freak gust and at one point looked as though it might turn over!

However, the pilot managed to turn it sufficiently to prevent any more lifting and stopped. It took the Airport Firre Brigade nearly 5 minutes to get there! When they did they used two foam engines to try and block the wind and then beagan to try and turn the aircraft round, sfter first unloading the passengers - who must have been scared shitless!!

When they tried to tow the aircraft with the little tug on the grass it seems the tug got stuck!! they had to call in a JCB to pull the tug out and then move the plane. At this point I left to go back to work. Unfortunately I missed the gust that made the aircraft swing round and catch the JCB, putting a damn great dent in the right-hand wing leading edge!!

Not only was this aircraft damaged, the other Let, OK-RDA suffered nose landing gear damage when it, too, was lifted by the wind a smashed to the ground. This was on stand, facing into wind as per the regulations. Not a good day for Manx2.com unfortunately!!

No Paul, it can be fixed pretty easily I believe.

It wasn't a nice day out today. I had to drive down to Nottingham (a 50 mile drive from home) and it was extremely windy and wet, which took 2 hours. I saw at least 1 truck that had been blown over and into the central reservation on the M1.
Then on the way back it was even worse. The M1 was closed due to overturned trucks and it took me 4 hours to get back home
