    Oh, and there's an interesting aviation tie as well...


    ...for those who might not know, Barbaro's trainer is Michael Matz (darker hair, on right):
    who, while known as a legendary showjumping rider and also paraded the American flag in the 1996 Olympics closing ceremony, is perhaps best known for being a survivor of UA232 (the DC10 that was crash-landed into SUX with nothing but differential engine power for steering) where he helped lead so many people to safety that the government officially recognized him for such.

    I got to meet him at the 1995 Upperville Showjumping Championship in Virginia... really cool dude.

    Sadly, Barbaro succumbed to his injuries, and had to be put down today (Monday, January 29)
