On Line Bidding for Hotel Rooms-Info Reqr

Anyone out there ever use one of those on line bidding sites for hotel rooms, or airfares for that matter. If so which ones, recommendations, hints etc?? Did you really save much $$$$ over say Expedia?

Priceline lets you bid, but when you do and they say ok, the airline gets to pick what flight you are put on and what time.

I use priceline alot for hotels if traveling on a 1 or 2 night trip...have been able to get great deals doing that...if staying longer I check online sites, the hotel's websites and calling the hotel itself...
