  • My other photographic hobby..

    Hi guys,

I spent the better part of this weekend, literally, in the middle of nowhere... or perhaps even on the outskirts of nowhere, dedicating a couple of days to my 'other' photographic hobby, with fellow JP.net screener Chris Starnes.

Here are a couple of shots.. I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I think they turned out pretty nicely.

    I like the second one!

You should come out here to Colorado during the winter. We have an old train that goes from Denver up to Winter Park (ski area). There are some great places to catch that thing chugging up the mountain through many feet of powder. Lot's of tunnels, scenic backdrops as well.

It is great to ride on too. They blow the steam whistle 30 minutes before they pull away. You can hear that all over the mountain. If you miss getting on, oh well.

      Nice stuff Chris!

Driving back to NYC this last week after being in Kentucky, Ohio, WV, MD etc..(and Dayton.. ) I unintentionally saw a bit of railroad action.. including one giant confluence of tracks and trains that did happen to be in the middle of nowhere on one of those "shortcuts" only Mapquest could have stuck me in... Wish I had more time..

      Keep up the great work.

Cool shots Chris, when I go 'home' in 10 days I'll have to try to get some pictures of some Japanese trains to put up there.

          Stunning scenery!!
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete

Nice shots. 2/3 of my pictures there involve Amtrak so they are not that exciting. This fall I'll have to go out to Harper's Ferry and get some shots from up on Maryland Heights.

Since you like trains I will post some of mine. A few weeks ago I got a ride on a ICE3. For once I could not resist shooting a few pics, normally I can not really be bothered by trains!

ICE at Arnhem CS (the Netherlands), Deutsche Bundesbahn

The first class interior of the ICE. This shot was made while driving between Oberhausen and Arnhem, roughly near Duiven (the Netherlands). This train is a NS train and not a Deutsche Bundesbahn train.
These trains are very luxurious. Above the doors you got displays with information like speed, time, program information for the radio, destinations etc. This photo was made of the first class and they even got PTV's. The ICE3 is better then ANY plane I have ever been on.

LOL! The "CEO" of DB would probably jump at you, scrape your eyes out of your head and strangle you for saying "Deutsche Bundesbahn"! Ewwww... That sounds so state run and impersonal, so much like bad customer service... Well, it sounds like everything "Die Bahn" has to offer!
