In the market for a notebook

I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on a notebook? No mac's please.. I am going to use it basically for school, word processing and such, listening to music, watching dvds, and being able to get on the internet when I am traveling and such. Something pretty tough, if there is such a thing. I checked out the Itronix and Panasonic toughbooks but those are way pricey Seem pretty bad ass but can't afford that.. I would like to keep it $1500 or less USD.

i heard the hp's that are out are pretty nice...my friend got one at best buy about a month ago for around $1200
