  • Some good advice

Got this in my email today:

Recently I have noticed an increase in email known as "chain mail". Some of this can be dangerous. Here are some rules for chain emailing...

    1. There is an email that says to send it to 8 or so people and then to press a key on your keyboard and the taco bell dog will walk across your screen, it never works, but for some reason, we do it any way next time. Well, nothing will ever, ever, ever happen. Never! When you send this to 8 of your friends, they send it to 8 of theirs and so on. It is bound to wind up in the hands of a spammers. This is potentially dangerous because spammers love these, when you send that email to everyone in your address book you have possibly just gotten their email on every spammers list. Notice how the message is always at the bottom of the email, everything above that contains every email address that that message has been sent to. A spammers paradise. How to prevent: if you receive one of these, do not send it to anyone! NO ONE! DELETE IT THEN!

    2. There is an email that says AOL is planning to charge for its Instant messaging unless it gets 10000 AOL member signatures on this email and that the last person to sign is to send it to a certain email address. You are in a panic, signing it and forwarding it to your friends that have AOL. Guess what, you have just given away, your first name, last name, and email, and that last person has just sent it all to someone in spammers paradise again. Just so you know, there is no such thing as an email petition. NONE! There is however online petitions, such as websites, those are different. How to prevent: if you receive one of these, do not send it to anyone! NO ONE! DELETE IT THEN!

    3. You just got an email saying that SEARS is giving away 10 dollar gift certificates if you send it to 5 people becasue they want everyone to know about their great bargains or something like that. Lets do some math...
lets say it started with you, of course it didn't, but for the purpose of this, we will say it did...

10$ for you for doing your sending.
50$ for those 5 people for doing their sending.
60$ dollars in certificates so far...
Those 5 friends of yours sent it to 5 of their friends, so 5x5 is 25
250$ in certificates for those people doing their part
    310$ so far...
Those 25 friends of theirs sent it each to their 5 friends, so 25x5 is 125
1250$ for those people doing their part
    1560$ Total

As you can see, the company would be broke in days. Also, its very likely that it will end up in the hands of a spammer. How to prevent: if you receive one of these, do not send it to anyone! NO ONE! DELETE IT THEN!

    4. Perhaps the ones I hate most, digitally enhanced photos that people try to pass as real ones. Some that bother me the most are
-The WTC photo of the plane crashing
-The Space shuttle pics blowing up, taken from a spy sattelite.
These are more annoying than dangerous, it is someone sick joke of terrible tragedies, just delete them.

I know all of this cannot just be stopped, but I am hoping that by reading this, you can help slow the circulation of these emails. If it sounds to good to be true, it is!

You mean I don't really have hot, tight and horny teenage girls waiting to "do" me?

You mean that no demon will pop out from under my bed at midnight and stab me with a knife?

How ironic, a chain letter complaining about chain letters.
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete
