Hi,
Little basic knowledge would be good.
But as mentioned before, practice, practice, practice.

Ill say two things,
1) There are no rules in photography
2) No amount of planning, practice and patience will ever replace dumb luck.
Feel free to argue amongst yourselves.

Practice, practice, practice. Oh, and did I mention practice?
It's as simple as that. You can read photography books, take classes, but nothing is as valuable as practice.

Practice is the word.
Find a sunny day, go out there and shoot. start from the simple shots, such as side shots, then elaborate by time. When you are comfortable with the shots you are trying go try some frontal shots, dawn and dusk shots and keep trying.
From there on you can find that most of us guys, take photography not for fame but for fun :P:P

The best tip is just get out there and start shooting and enjoy it. There are no "Rules" for a great picture. As you take more images you will find that even when you plan that "special" shot it doesn't always work out as intended. I started on film a few(cough) years ago when it was a costly learning curve. I guess there are many people who have been down the trial & error route, worked for me.
There are plenty of people on here that will help, don't be afraid to post some of your first shots in the forum, you will soon pick it up.

Where can I learn to be a better photographer?
Ok, so I just received a new camera - nothing fancy, just a point-and-shoot camera. But I have seen some of the art that you guys produce and am wondering, how did you guys get that good at it. I mean, I know that there needs to be a certain aptitude, but what are the rules for a picture to be considered great? Where did you guys learn? Are there any tips for someone starting out?Tags: None
