I really should find a forum with more than 2 girls on it...

So one of my friends is also suffering from insomnia tonight and we got to talking about dating stuff. If you ask someone out to dinner (second date) and take them someplace nice (ok we're college students... "nice" means Applebee's or Texas Roadhouse), you should pick up the tab, right? My friend seems to think that would put the girl in an uncomfortable situation and make her think I was expecting *something* in return if I didn't give her a chance to pay half.

Why else would you pay for her meal?

Offer to pick up the cheque, mention something about thats how your mama raised you, or something equally downhome and old fashioned manners and accept hat she does:

She lets you, knowing you're just being polite,no strings attached,

or she insists on paying half, because she doesn't want to feel obligated to you and REALLY doesn't want to have to fend off a fumbled grope-fest in an open-top jeep.

Right, a sedan is so much more discreet.

Offer to pick up the tab, agree to her response.
          She accepts? Fine
          She suggest to share? Fine
She declines and pays her share? Fine
She wants to pick up the whole tab? Marry her. Quick!

You can always challenge her to tequila shot races to see who picks up the cheque - it'll at least numb your mind to the inane 2nd date conversation some find obliged to conduct.

Why make such a Hollywood production out of it?

Does she make more money than you? If yes, do not let her go.

If you invited her out then there is no problem paying, however for mutual decisions on going out there is nothing wrong with splitting the bill (as long as both are working).

Women's desire for equality often seems to end as the dinner check approaches the table. IMO it is important to have clearly established beforehand who is going to pay what. This should take a good deal of unnecessary stress off things at dinner.

                    Hehe.

I always pay - that's how I was brought up. But then, I never invited women for dinner where I didn't get laid afterwards.

Hey, you. That former life was mine. That's was Mexico, Brasil, The Carribean, Thailand, Japan and the Philippines as a young sailor. I never saw you there.

I can't let a woman pay for dinner, none of it. I couldn't live with myself if I did. If that makes her uncomfortable, that's her problem.

That was inter alia in Denmark and Norway (sic!). The Danish girl was better than the Norwegian. That fling with the Danish girl lasted for 9 months - sigh, the good old times...

Of course, she might feel that your inability to 'let' her is yours...
