It's really gone the way of the dodo here. If you see someone smoking, it's either in their 'home' with their shopping cart under the overpass, or sitting on the porch of their doublewide. Not saying you should change your ways or anything, just noting a cultural difference, I guess.

Ok, now solve this one:

I was late yesterday and realized my bus to meet my date had left 5 min ago and that I had to wait till 1700 (5 p.m.) fot the next one.

Incidentally, I realized that the hour hand of the clock would roughly need 3x the time of the minute hand until hitting the "6" .

What time had my bus left?

As nobody seems to find it: Its now either 1545 or 1715. The latter is not possible as the next bus will come at 1700, so the first is the actual time. This means my bus left 1540.

How to reach the solution:

The minute hand needs 60-x minutes to hit the "6", which always means its half past something, i.e. the hour hand hits the full hour at 30-x minutes. Now all we need is to integrate the 3x into the formula and get:

(60-x)*3 = 30-x+60 =>> x = 45
Its 135 minutes before 1800, i.e. 1545

for next hour that would be

(60-x)*3 = 30-x+120 =>> x = 15
in which case its 45 minutes til 1800, i.e. 1715 and this solution is not possible

okies, all that didnt find the solution get a Last Chance of not getting banned :

They get 50 black chips and 50 white chips by the mods and may distribute them any way they like into two identical looking boxes. The next day the mods offer them to (blindfolded) draw one chip from one of the boxes.

If they draw a white chip, theyre ok, black chip means they will be getting banned for life time.

Now, how would you distribute the chips into the boxes to have a maximum chance of not getting banned?
