Why is Houston pronounced as Hewston?

We actually in the midwest pronounce it as YOU-STON with a slight H sound at the begining. I was taught it is never HEW-STON and HOWSTON is not the correct way to pronounce it.
Anything with an H in front of a u sound is usually pronounce with a YOU, like Human-Youman, or Houston- Youston, etc etc Except House thats HOWS and not Youse LMAO

Another great Texas town is Mexia. It almost always gets pronounced mɛksiə (sounds like Mex-E-Ah) although the correct pronunciation is "muh-HAY-uh."

Houston is pronounced Hew-ston because it was named for Sam Houston and that's how he pronounced it!
