Scary incident @ NHL game (graphic content warning)

During last nights Sabres/Panthers game, Richard Zednik of the Panthers got a cut on his neck after being struck by the skate blade of teammate Olli Jokinen in the third period.

Ugh hearing the crowd's reaction and the commentator is pretty chilling. But honestly that footage is nothing compared to the video of Clint Malarchuk back in 1989. I'm not linking to those videos... and I'm warning anybody before they go look it up... it's bad. Amazingly he only spent one night in the hospital and was back at practice 4 days later, and he went on to keep playing for a few years.
Hopefully Zednik recovers. It's enough to turn me off from wanting to see a hockey game.

I forget the clip but I saw one recently of a guy getting checked so hard that he couldn't even get back up because he was so dizzy (I guess). It was kind of funny but scary at the same time.

Hmmh.... I just watched the Clint Malarchuk video, and it really didn't bother me. I guess that's because I've seen much worse things online.

Either way, both make you not want to play hockey...

I dunno, I can't find the picture now, but there was a huge trail of blood all the way from where Zednik got cut to the bench. Maybe Malarchuk's just looked worse because he stayed put and it all collected in one spot.

I saw another pic of Zednik where you could see the trail of blood. I can't find it though. They're saying Zednick lost a half gallon of blood.

Exactly why I'm more likely to go on the ice without skates than without a throat guard.

Honestly I only see goalies wear throat guards though. Even in the juniors where everyone wears full face shields, no one wears those.

There are actually a lot of goalies who dont wear any throat protection. The little part of the mask that sticks down doesn't do a damn thing. I've been hit in the throat many times with pucks and it hurt like hell, I can't even imagine what it would be like without one.
