  • So who's been hypoxic?

Today I'm going into an altitude chamber for the first time, should be interesting. They'll raise the pressure altitude to FL250 equivalent then we take off our masks and see how long we last. Has anybody else had the experience? What was that like?

Hahaha, most of us would probably do the same thing though.

I want to go to one of those things when I get a chance.

Holy crap it was awesome. I did the card box and got all euphoric and macho. Lasted I think about 3 or 4 minutes at FL250 equiv (what seemed like 30 seconds) till I put the mask back on. The guy who sat across from me recorded a video of it, I'll see if I can get it on youtube and post it here.

Hell yeah. I got the shape box (squre peg, square hole, etc) and I passed the hell out after about 4 mins. It was spectacular. Like going from 100% sober to 100% passed out drunk in 5 mins.

I was through the altitude chamber a few times in the USAF. It was always a blast, getting that euphoric feeling as the oxygen level dropped. Fortunately I never encountered it in the airplane!

Hypoxia is the absolute perfect way to die. We can only dream of dying that way (painlessly & euphoria), the reality though is most of us will die in an uncomfortable manner. :s

MM, if I ever want to lead a cult to a senseless and uniform death, you can pitch the idea to them for me.

Wow, looks like the same thing that happens around 6 -7 ATM underwater. Am I correct in saying its like being drunk?

Yes, but it happens much faster and much, much cheaper.
