Your problem is that you are trying to use two different modems (not sure why you'd do that), stick to one modem and use the router. You could have mulitple routers if you wanted though, you'd have to figure the set up yourself as I've never done it, but it can't be that hard to do (as long as you're at least somewhat tech savvy)
Im doing it that way so i dont need to get a ~15m long ethernet cable running all around the house, across hallways and such. and through a couple of doors. There isnt a phone jack half way between the rooms or such either. so i could just get two smaller cables.
