    Jew (jōō) Pronunciation Key
    n.
    1. An adherent of Judaism as a religion or culture.
    2. A member of the widely dispersed people originally descended from the ancient Hebrews and sharing an ethnic heritage based on Judaism.
    3. A native or inhabitant of the ancient kingdom of Judah.

This is not aimed at any user in particular. While Anti-Semitism has existed for as long as there have been Jews, recently the word "Jew" has risen to use among young people as a derogatory remark. Unfortunately this reared its ugly head here tonight. With this in mind, I feel it is important to express how upsetting this is to see anyone's faith being used in this nature, especially my own. I hope this is a learning experience for all of you. Please do not turn my identity into a derogatory remark.

Gentlemen, this is a great community and one that has grown significantly both in numbers and caliber in the wake of recent events. I implore you all to stop the fighting, which fortunately has subsided significantly. It is clear we still have a bit of a ways to go.

    El Al,
    Rob

Wait, so I can't use Jew as an adjective rather than a noun?

I find it particularly indicative that tonight that word was used as slur by a person whose "people" have a lengthy and ugly history of anti-semitism and who (one would hope) should therefore know better. I guess it's true what they say about old dogs and new tricks.

Not to mention this person is a native of the country which housed these infamous concentration camps, and the Nazi's leveled his capital and murdered his people just as they did the Jews.

What you missed was that our Polish friend in another feat of craniorectal inversion made a statement to the effect that none of the American jew (sic) airlines ever give out gifts.

No way! That's a real shocker!

The good thing is that he "as a person who is really into European/World history" can claim no ignorance about the implications...

I appreciate the support but please keep it civil. I do not want this to spiral.

                          Rob,
As some one who is both, (a) of Jewish ancestry, and (b) of a faith that many people are polarized about, I sympathize with you, and am sorry that such ignorance is still so prevalent. I appologise on behalf of the person who said this, in the case that he doesn't.

I think you should buy some books on XX century history. Make sure you know all the historical facts before you make such statements.
Following this rule, I should make a thread about racism against Polaks, seen in almost every reply by one of jp.net members, but I won't. I just don't see a point in threads like this.
And I don't feel guilty of any stetements made before.

Those of you who feel its ok to make anti semitic remarks need to go to Europe and visit a concentration camp. By far the most sobering, depressing, and angering things I have ever seen in my life. I can't even make good natured jokes about them, just wrong.

Patryk...you made such a big deal about "being an adult" when you turned 18. Its time to start acting the part, even if those around you aren't.
