  • Oh my god! Strong turbulance on landing yesterday @ CLK

I'm not going to put in flight review due doesn't make senses to me.

So, We are leaving for HK on today from Manila. I went to the CX office to get a ticket 4 HK on CX902. I go to the NAIA airport and check the luggage for the illegal things. After, the luggage check-in. Go to counter to book a ticket. Then go to the gate wait for the plane to HK.

Now, we are boarding the gate of CX 747-400 B-HOO? (I didn't see the reg. number of this plane not the special livery). I saw the itinerary it say A330-300 for CX902. Why the 744 on CX902 not A333?

I'm sitting on 35C and only one window on front engine. During takeoff, the weather was normal. After takeoff, I'm looking for the empty seat next to the window. More legroom great for taller ppl and have a PTV. I know that PTV can see the airshow and movie also the game. CX A340-300 have the Super SNES controller and maybe a video game. I move to 65A and there 3 seats are empty. Not so many ppl on back rows huh? During crusing 39,000. Some light turbulance and it's only 1 1/2 hrs faster than A340-300 or A340-600. I say hi to F/A. It's very nice F/A to say hi to me. Then dinner is only the beard with ham. Oh no! the F/A drop the can on box of soft drink into the seats from the tray. Then she is laughing cuz they drop the can on box after bang into the arm rest.

During approach to HKG Airport, and we go around for wait 25 minutes cuz of heavy wind and rain in the runway. We got 3 times and ready for the landing. We got strong turbulance into the cloud and full hard brake down to the apparoach the runway. The flap down to 10 and medium turbulance. The plane is going to landing. 15 dreege Flap down and suddley very strong turbulance. I saw the PTV the speed was 163 miles. Then going to close to the sea. Oh no! 157 miles and full speed ahead up to 178 miles cuz of strongest turbulance. OH NO! It's too close into the sea and the feet was 835 feets. The pax was nevous, tearing the eyes and scary. My heart was beating fast and nevous. Nooo!! The feet was 435!?!?! and finally make to the runway. Then landing safely. Whew! The plane was hit by strong turbulance to landing cuz of Typhoon Krovanh. Now, the weather was amysial. Heavy wind, rain and blowing.

Good job to the pilots for the landing safe under the typhoon signal.

Arrived to the gate, I make a long walk to the immt. and baggage claimed. Man! I didn't see the reg. of the plane from MNL. I have a new HK ID card and we passed into the screen of health??? sometime like that. We passed into immt. and pick up my baggages. I saw the Typhoon Signal is No. 3. Isn't huh?

It's the 1st time to land under the Typhoon Signal No. 3.

    Anyway, do you understand me?

Wow, that must have been quite the experience. But with the typhoon in the area, I guess it was to be expected. Nonetheless, I'll bet you're glad to be back on the ground safely!

Good story, Paul! I hope when I fly on CX we have something other than beard and ham!

        One error, though -- the 747-400 doesn't have a 15° flap setting. The detents on the 744 are 0, 1, 5, 10, 20, 25, and 30.

I know Paul from back at the Project Airbus forums. He is originally from Hong Kong but now living in Washington state. His English is still quite rough and can be hard to understand, but it's actually improved quite a bit in the past year it seems.
I'd like to see you try and speak Cantanese or Mandarin and not make any mess ups C72! :P
