Though this has to do with aviation safety I thought I would put it in off-topic because my post is largely political.
Joe Biden of Obama’s administration recommended that people shouldn’t fly or take mass transit. While there is some truth to what he says; it is a somewhat hysterical overreaction.
Obama’s administration suggested not making unnecessary air travel; yet hypocritically the Obama administration had Air Force One go on a low-level joyride photo op; without giving the general public notification; thereby inducing panic, wasting tax payer money, fuel/energy, costing businesses and the public a fortune for the collateral damages from the panic that the Obama administration induced.
The amount of ignorance, ineptness and hypocrisy from the Obama administration is laughable and scary. It’s hard to believe Obama’s claim that he didn’t know where “Air Force One” was.
Lets see. We scold automotive manufacturers for wasting money and fuel taking relatively small biz jets back and forth to meetings; yet the fascist liberals squander taxpayer money and fuel “Air Force One” to have a dedicated photo shoot mission? Why couldn’t this photo shoot opportunity been done in transient on one of many of Obama’s trips to the area; rather than having a dedicated photo op mission?
The fascist liberals (and the liberal media) seemed to expect Bush to micromanage and have knowledge and take responsibility for everything that happened during his administration. So why isn’t the media and the liberals holding Obama and his administration to the same standard? Shouldn’t Obama and his administration realize that doing a surprise low-level pass near the former World Trade Center site would induce panic? It’s ignorant AND hypocritical.
The interview of the White House staff was pathetic and hilarious; it made Bush look like a professional and a genius. The Obama administration kept telling the reporters not to ask them, to ask the White House administration. Haha fascist liberals are so dumb and to used finger-pointing ( blaming) the White House administration; that they forgot that they are the White House administration.
I think it demonstrates how inept, out-of-control, thoughtless, and careless that this administration is. Taxpayer money being squandered to terrorize residents of New York City by the Obama administration. When they finally realized ex post facto how dumb their plan was; it seems they went on a witchhunt for a scapegoat.
It seems that Obama is trying to outdo Clinton. Clinton got a multimillion dollar “haircut” (that may have been a BJ from a prostitute that was fronting as a hairdresser) on AF-1. I think they shut down all air traffic within 50 miles while Clinton got about an hour long “haircut”. A lot of air traffic had to hold and be redirected.
When you add up all the lost business (and other expenses) from Obama’s Air Force One New York City photo shoot, it may very well be a billion-dollar photo.
Clinton gets some trim.
Source and full story
It's not the cost of the actual "haircut" itself that so outrageous, it's what it cost in fuel and what it cost the airline industry and other businesses that suffered because of the delays because of Clinton's "haircut". It's all so outrageous because Clinton was possibly getting more than his "haircut". Possibly Air Force One at taxpayer expense was used by the president as a brothel and at the expense of business because of redirected and delayed flights.
I feel most of the public is greatly underestimating the costs of such a stunt. I feel he is just estimating the costs of operating the aircraft itself but not the collateral costs to the public and the businesses. I suspect the collateral costs may run as high as a billion or more. From what I understand businesses were shut down and were evacuated. There may have even been the physical injuries during evacuations and there certainly was psychological trama to many New Yorkers. This stunt will likely cause many New Yorkers to have psychosis ( flashbacks, panic attacks, anxiety, etc…) that will result in loss of work efficiency and reduced physical and mental health. Some people will likely lose their jobs because they will become so psychotic that they will be less productive at work. The stunt will result in increased health costs whether it be from physical injuries from the evacuations or from psychiatric counseling and medications.
It’s much like in the case of Clinton’s “haircut” ( that was suspiciously like a front for an encounter with a prostitute). The cost of the “haircut” itself was trivial. The cost to the taxpayers to operate the aircraft on the ground while getting his “haircut” was likely hundreds of thousands of dollars which was significant to the taxpayer; however it is probably minor compared to the collateral damage that was done to businesses that had to suffer delays and have their flights rerouted. Companies probably lost business deals and probably had to pay penalties for being late. People probably had to pay more for many things like day care, lodging, etc… because of delays incurred from Clinton’s “haircut”.
Let’s take a few hypothetical situations. Let’s say your aircraft is waiting for a part that is on a Delta Dash delivery and your aircraft is grounded until the part is received and installed, if the flight for your part is delayed than your company is hemorrhaging money. Let’s say there is a blackout; and the local utility is waiting on a part or a service specialist to be flown in; but they are delayed resulting in more costs to the utility company and to the public. Let’s say you’re having a transplant and waiting on a replacement heart; but you end up dying because the heart is delayed and is useless by the time it arrives.
Often the collateral costs are much higher than the obvious costs. Think a little deeper.
The White House said that the reason for the flyby was a photo op mission; they didn’t say anything about training or give and other excuse such as testing/probing our suitability and reaction to a perceived terrorist attack (if they did I didn't hear it). Either way the White House seems extremely reckless, callous and inept. If this was some sort of training mission test and probe for homeland defense; then the Obama and the White House is not living up to their campaign promises of openness. One of the many campaign promises that Obama already has broken many times.
Back to the swine flu. It was nice for once to hear Obama commend Bush for having the government stockpiling Tamiflu. While it is good that the government is stockpiling Tamiflu in some ways; in other ways it is bad. From what I understand for the most part the government requires the average Joe have a prescription for Tamiflu. I think that may be good for preventing overuse and resistant strains however I think it would be good if the average Joe could stockpile some of their own drugs in case of emergency. One of the problems with the government being in possession of the stockpile is that it makes the average Joe dependent on the government to run to the rescue and be the hero. It prevents the individual from having the ability to save themselves. So far I don’t think this swine flu epidemic looks as extreme as the flu pandemic that occurred in World War I (191
; so far it seems mostly hysterical and precautionary/ better safe than sorry . However if there was an extreme flu pandemic as bad or worse than there was in 1918; would it be really smart to be dependent on government stockpiles? Would it be really smart to have to go out into public (possibly use mass transit with sick people and waste fuel) and wait in line with sick people.
It’s absolutely amazing how shallow, inept, incompetent, hypocritical and sociopath that this presidential administration is (and most of Congress and the media).
About the only reasonable and intelligent thing Obama said in his speech the other night was that people should wash their hands frequently.

Haircut Grounded Clinton While the Price Took Off
By THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN,

It may have been the most expensive haircut in history.
Two of Los Angeles International Airport's four runways were shut down for nearly an hour on Tuesday, some incoming flights were delayed and Air Force One sat on the tarmac with engines running -- all so that President Clinton's Beverly Hills hairstylist, Chistophe, could come aboard and give Mr. Clinton a high-price trim before he took off for Washington.
Questions about Mr. Clinton's runway razor cut dominated the White House news briefing today, with the communications director, George Stephanopoulos, scrambling to explain why the populist President tied up one of the country's busiest airports to have his hair trimmed. Everybody Does It
