...granted, she was less than 4mo old when it happened, but still. Seems like a profound loss that such an event no longer exists in living memory, subconscious or otherwise.

Last Survivor of Titanic Dies in England

Death Comes on 98th Anniversary of Launch of Famous Ship

LONDON (May 31) -- Millvina Dean, who as a baby was wrapped in a sack and lowered into a lifeboat in the frigid North Atlantic, died Sunday, having been the last survivor of 1912 sinking of the RMS Titanic.
She was 97 years old, and she died where she had lived — in Southampton, England, the city her family had tried to leave behind when it took the ship's ill-fated maiden voyage, bound for America.

Quite a story that has finally ended.
    Who's on first?..........

When I was a child, the first history book I read was Walter Lord's A Night to Remember, and since that day I have loved history. Both my degrees are in it, and I plan to go for a PhD in a year or two. So for me this is a sad day.

The passing of Ms. Dean is end of our connection to that era.

Teach on the college/university level. Also something like an upper level historian for places such as the NPS. I haven't decided whether to teach or a non-teaching professional career, but I have time before I must make that choice.

I'll probably still be here. I have no intention of giving up this hobby.
