  • Adieu to a Warrior

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last night most of the Canadians here and also troops and cvilians from other nations gathered for a ramp ceremony to say farewell to Pte Alexandre Peloqion, a member of the famous Vandoos, as he started his long voyage home to Quebec. He was killed by an IED Monday, Canada's 119 casualty in this conflict.

It was an honour to be there, the emotion of those gathered was incredible and difficult to describe. The casket was piped onto a Herc and it was over. He was only 20 and survived by his mother.

Je me souviens (I will remember).

As an aside, the ramp was shared with an RAF Tristar 500-the crew was out front of their aircraft in a mark of respect

Always sad to see this kind of stuff...

New U.S forces are on station with more coming.

I can not give specifics but let me state that this place is hopping at present. Lots of heavy air traffic plus all the choppers and fighters that are normally stationed here.

I have seen the hearses on the "Highway of Heroes" (Hwy 401 from Trenton to Toronto) several times. It's very moving to see the people on lining the bridges paying their respects.
