  • VIDEO: An Ode to the Negro Spiritual

Eh, figured I'd share this with you types and see what happens:

1992 video of my grandmother leading praise & worship, at The Mission Outreach For Christ church, in the town of White Castle, Louisiana.

...sure it's off-key, but it's for the Lord, so who cares right?

This one really brings back memories. Granted, I don't miss the 3hr sermons at all, but some of the people shown here I haven't seen in years-- decades even. I'm sure it'd also serve as an insight into the essence of the rural African-American Full-Gospel community, for those who may not have experienced it before... it's got a nature all its own!

Dedicated to my cousin 'Keisha (who can be seen center-screen at the very start of the video, wearing a pink blouse and burgundy skirt, hands folded across her lap), who was brutally murdered in June of 2007. RIP.

...oh, and as a bit o' humor, I refer to this one as "Ode to the Negro Breakfast"
