  • Who own's the Fish ?

OK, JP Community - long time no "speak" - time to use a bit of the grey matter lodged between the ears - No cheating by trying to Google for the answers -

    Einstein's Riddle
The story behind Einstein's riddle is that Albert Einstein created it in the late 1800s, and claimed that 98% of the world population couldn't solve it. Here it is:
    - In a street there are five houses, painted five different colours.
    - In each house lives a person of different nationality.
    - These five homeowners each drink a different kind of beverage, smoke different brand of cigar and keep a different pet.
Einstein's riddle is: Who owns the fish?
    Necessary clues:
    1. The British man lives in a red house.
    2. The Swedish man keeps dogs as pets.
    3. The Danish man drinks tea.
    4. The Green house is next to, and on the left of the White house.
    5. The owner of the Green house drinks coffee.
    6. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
    7. The owner of the Yellow house smokes Dunhill.
    8. The man living in the center house drinks milk.
    9. The Norwegian lives in the first house.
    10. The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.
    11. The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
    12. The man who smokes Blue Master drinks beer.
    13. The German smokes Prince.
    14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
    15. The Blends smoker lives next to the one who drinks water.

    Ah...I remember this.

Oh...welcome back as well, thought you'd left us.

A system of logical removal of negatives thus leaving a series of positives culminating in the final answer. As I recall, it all revolves around using a system of tick boxes with the final required item (in this case the fish) being in the top left box along with the other animals. The other group options are listed across the top from left to right in their own boxes and repeated top to bottom.

This could take some time without resorting to Google.

Back soon, hopefully before I decide to commit suicide first.

...probably someone who used to have "Bye, and thanks for all the fish" in their signature maybe ?

I may be old...but my memory still works.

            The German owns the fish.

The houses from left to right are:
            Yellow, Norwegian, Water, Dunhill, Cats
            Blue, Danish, Tea, Blends, Horses
Red, British, Milk, Pall Mall, Birds
            Green, German, Coffee, Prince, Fish
White, Swedish, Beer, Blue Master, Dogs

I didn't use a search engine, but I did employ a common computer program. It wasn't necessary, but it did expedite the solution.

Well done Mr. Snappy, but in real life:
              Danes-Prince
              Swedes-Blend
              Brits-? Pall Mall
              Germans-??
Us Norskies- Used to be Blue Masters on serious occations like funerals, weddings and such, but rolling ones own from cut toenails, bell button leftovers and the strongest tobacco available would be the thing to do. Also called Tiedemans Karva Blad or Red Mixture.
Dunhill, you must be freakin' jokin', and water? Yeah, right.

                          6. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.

Something is definitely fishy about the story. Dunhills didn't appear until 1907 and even than only in Dunhills private, single store. It took few years before they become internationally known. Pall Mall first appeared in 1899. A smoker knows this stuff.
Not sure why I left milk in the quote. Milk was definitely around.

                          Carry on.

I'm quite chuffed that I eventually got it using a manually written version.

A lateral thinking problem for you.....

There is a cylindrical tower in the middle of the desert that is 40 feet high to the rafters. There are no stairs, in fact no visible way of getting to the top of the tower. The floor is sand, which is damp to the touch. Parked outside is a truck. The open load area is empty apart from a large canvas sheet which is white on one side and black on the other.

A man is hanging, dead, from a 6 foot length of rope tied to the rafters.

How did he commit suicide in this manner ?
