How come if someone gives an opinion you do not like they are anti-american/eurotwit/ultraliberals?

By stifling others opinions you become no better than those people on the other side of the world who don't allow their people to speak their minds.

I don't see much difference between the rantings of the religious right in the U.S. and the "haters of the west" in the Middle East.

Very true Iceman, however it seems all we hear from lately is the religious right.

I could care less if someone disagrees with me. Heck, my best friend for 20 years is a declared socialist and we get along just fine. We even discuss politics. Of course we never agree but we don't attack each other because our opinions differ.

On Airliners.net, the vast majority of those who are anti-Bush, anti-U.S., anti-Conservative, anti-Christian, or all of the above are angry, vindictive people who ooze hatred toward anyone who doesn’t agree 100% with their views. When they become so enraged that they cannot say whatever poison they want, they run to Airwhiners.net and do it. I have yet to the real conservatives, save one, on Airliners.net lower themselves to the same level. Speaking just about myself, I don’t call people fascists and Nazis, say that they burn crosses and wear white sheets or that they’re “RepubliKKKans”, or that their religious beliefs (if they have any) are “antiquated and should be banned”.

Sadly, many (not all) on the left would be more than happy to deny every freedom from anyone with whom they do not agree while demanding all their "rights" be respected.

You two seem to have found that lost phrase... "I simply don't get your way of thinking, so how 'bout we just disagree?" Personally, I do love agreements, but there's certainly no need for everyone to agree with everyone.

What bothers me about that is that it's so easy to be labeled "anti-whatever" by some people; and as a matter of fact, in most cases I know, a conservative calls someone "anti-American" (regarding a.net). It is one of the annoying things that I could very well live without, since I think nobody could be called "anti-American" for what he posts on the internet. Such posts simply don't show the reader as much of a personality as would be needed to justify an accusation of that calibre. In addition, the words "anti-American" are a safe way to start fights, which should be considered every time they're posted. It certainly is not.

Please, don't generalise like that. "Many on the left" is no description that adresses few people, but huge crowds. Please bear in mind that those who cry loudest are almost always a (very) vocal minority, and they don't represent "the left" at all.

For example, I am certainly a "leftist" in your mind. I can very well live with that, just like you can live with the fact that I consider you to be from the far right. But would you consider yourself a libertarian? Do you support (examples) large-scale wiretaps and all-embracing background checks on air travellers? I do not, much like I do think that every person that's granted many liberties should also take much responsibility and behave responsibly. I dare to say that you probably agree with the latter part of that.

So are "leftist" and "right-winger" really sufficient descriptions of people?

There was one thread with no topic, by Matt D who had edited it to make it blank (and have it deleted afterwards). So the people who didn't know how to get into a thread without clicking on its topic started to complain, while the "select few" had a lot of fun... BUT IT ENDED UP DELETED BECAUSE OF ALL THE COMPLAINTS!!! Damn, if they're too freaking stupid, they should cope with it and not ruin other people's fun over it! ARGH!
