  • A lesson in grammar

I don't know where this went wrong when it crossed the pond, but lets quickly sort it out.

The phrase 'I couldn't care less' is used to describe of what little import you find something. EG:

Jeff: "I am wearing white underwear"
    Mike: "I couldn't care less".

This is correct use of the phrase.

Now, the phrase 'I could care less is quite obviously the opposite to the above. Witness its use:

B757300: "I could care less if someone disagrees with me."

    And many others.

Obviously, this gives exactly the opposite message to what you're trying to say! It means that you DO care and find it an issue if someone disagrees with you.

Go forth and use the phrase correctly, and confusion will diminish.

This has been a public service announcement
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete

Anyway, it really fooled me the first times I read it and I still think "they should know better" every time I read it.

Kat, I'm so glad you made this thread. Like you, I've always noticed how people say the phrase incorrectly. I'm one of the few people that when saying this phrase says it correctly. Yay!

                        New Zealand, England....same thing.

Don't worry about what everyone says Kat, men hate it when women prove they're smarter than them. Although I find it very attractive...

                          Hear, hear...

and I suppose the next item on the bulletin is to present the fact the honor is not a word in English, but Honour is?

I use both when I write, and I don't mind it when they are used interchangeably... In fact, I could care less which one is right...
