considering what his henchmen do around the world, who knows what he could have on his body? I would rather see the headline 'mass murderer shot twice' than 'mass murderer detonates suicide belt killing himself and x number of navy seals'.

To take him alive would never have been in the plan. A live prisoner would create a figurehead, a living martyr. Imagine the threats, kidnappings etc. that would ensue in a vain attempt to secure his release. OK, the world at large is still in danger of reprisals but there is no body, living or dead that can be used in exchange threats. The burial at sea was entirely appropriate in that it gave no opportunity for a body or parts of it to he held up in Islamic martyrdom.
There are those that say he should have been taken prisoner. I disagree, much the same as Margaret Thatcher when she was Prime Minister during the Iranian Embassy siege disagreed when she made it clear that she didn't want any "expensive prisoners" to be taken during the SAS assault on the Princes Gate embassy.

On 9/11, over 3000 people died (Including 19 animals that carried out the attacks)
On 3/11, 191 people died
On 7/7, 52 people died. (Excluding the 4 animals that carried out the attacks)
Over 8000 people were injured in those attacks, injuries that went from cuts and bruises to loss of one or more limbs
None of these people were given a death sentence by a jury, with a defendant, a trial or a judge. None of these people had been accused of murdering anyone, nor commited a crime. There were 33 non-terrorist passengers onboard UA93, they died as heroes, they died in a successful attempt to prevent the plane from being used to attack whatever target they had in Washington, whether it was the Capitol, the Pentagon or the White House, they saved hundreds or thousands of lives. Those 33 passengers were given a death sentence during their attempt to save those thousands. They didn't make it about themselves or their faith, they knew they were going to die, they simply elected to make one final sacrifice, to save more people from dying.
Plenty of firefighters were injured or died during that day, they too, gave up their life or health in order to save more people, no one found them guilty of doing something to deserve death or injury.
Of those 8000 injured, there's people who will never walk, run, see, or hear. There's people who had nightmares and some that still have. There's children that will grow up without ever seeing their mom or dad ever, there's people who never got to see what their unborn babies looked like, there's people who never got to marry their boyfriend or girlfriend. No one gave them a fair trial, a defendant, a due process, they didn't do anything to deserve that. Some of them weren't even born when their punishment was given to them. No one told that 3 year old "Hey, there's evidence you stole candy from your friend, as a punishment, your dad will die today". If that happened in a court, people would be outraged at whoever assigned the sentence and would lynch him, this is no different.

As far as treating the dead (and prisoners) in accordance with Islamic law: hasn’t there been many cases that people have been beheaded, had their genitals burned off, had their bodies dragged through the street, then to be hung high and displayed publicly by “Muslims” claiming that they were acting in accordance to “Islamic law”?
How come we didn’t offer the same respect to Osama bin Laden and his supporters; that he and his supporters have given our soldiers, our missionaries, our contractors, are civilians, our humanity effort workers?

Congratulations to all involved in the operation. I'm sure many people feel much safer tonight as a result of this. Unfortunately Al-Qaeda will still continue to operate but this is still an important victory. Justice will be served..... even if it takes a while.
Now to take out the next highest guy in Al-Qaeda, Ayman al Zawahiri. Lets hope it doesn't take another ten years.
