    Also of note is that this is extremely recent scientific engineering and procedure.

    The particular aerial lifting machine had very few moving parts, and flew very low to the ground at extremely slow speeds.

    The wingspan was impressive.

    Compared to a typical airplane, I would think they had at least some increased structural weight flexibility.

    Engineering and procedure that were claimed, among other things, to enhance safety.

    It's a little reminiscent of a ship that gained notoriety a little over 100 years ago...
