As you may know, the Kyoto protocol is a convention that many countries have signed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to slow global warming, but not yet ratified. A conference in milan is happening currently debating on the issue. Russia is undecided while US is opposing it.
i totally support this pact. It will indeed protect our environment.
Any other thoughts?
Within the last couple of days, Russia has announced that they will not ratify Kyoto.
Three of the biggest problems with Kyoto are
- Nations like China and India are not participants and yet they produce a large volume of pollution. (Remember the “Asian Brown Cloud” a few years ago)
- Kyoto would cripple the economies of the U.S. and Russia (and the E.U. but they don’t seem to care). Even though President Bush pulled it from consideration by the Senate, the Senate has passed a resolution saying that they would reject it 98-0.
- Despite the fact that the media tries to convince the public that global warming exists and is caused by humans, there are still a lot of scientists who debate this. There is not enough data to show whether the slight increase in temperature is caused by humans or if it is just part of a natural cycle of increasing and decreasing temperatures.
