People could have died today and fedex lost a whole md10 worth millions of dollars, and yes I do think that it is important enough to be in forums.

So is the plane a DC-10, MD-10, DC-11, or a MD-11? I didn't get that since they intertwined some of those names around....

also good that they didn't shut down MEM. For too long atleast. IF you looked in the video on the Ch. 3 website, you could see planes departing in the background. I guess a lot of people lost their letters, gifts, etc. Does FedEx really allow 2 person crews on a WHOLE MD-11? That's gotta be a really lonely flight! I know that there were five jumpseaters on this one, but would fedex really launch an md-11 with 2 people? Thats....just unimaginable to me!

the plane was a md10, I said it was a dc10 but I was wrong, it was a dc10 that was converted to a md10

I watched all my local news channels for this (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 12, 20) and saw nothing, so I watched CNN and saw a short 1 minute blurb...

only SOME of the cargo was damaged and it appears to be more of a really, really bad landing rather than a BAD CRASH lol .

Forgive me ATLcenter if you already know this, but the plane was an MD-10. It's a DC-10 that's had many of its systems upgraded... including a new cockpit which only requires a 2-person crew.

I worked for FedEx here in Memphis for over 3 years, and jumpseated often... maybe even on that very same plane. It's a spooky feeling, watching the footage of it burn while those people climb out of the windows. Coulda been me.

I'm going out to the airport tomorrow afternoon to see it.

Actually, you're right. Several times I was the only jumpseater on DC10s, and it's pretty creepy. The pilots were in front with the door shut, and I was all alone in a VERY dark, VERY quiet cabin that's virtually windowless.

Sleeping is the best option... if you can.
